Diesel engine options available in India under 1500cc

With the increase in cars everyday in a populated country like India, cars crowd the streets and pollution is hitting a new high. To take control of the situation the government has introduces certain laws which affects the common car buying consumer.

As per the law a car below 1200cc for a petrol car and 1500cc for a diesel car below 4 metres with a ground clearance below 170mm is eligible for tax benefits leading to the cars being priced competitively.

With the price of petrol touching 79.90 INR  per liter, Diesel cars are getting the favour. Here are some competitive engine options which power the cars on sale in India.



Fiat JTD Engine: Fiat's Engine for the Indian masses. The engine powers the highest number of cars in the country and has a huge list of takers. The car boasts of one of the best power to displacement below 1500cc diesel engines at 99bhp with 200nm torque and is one of the lightest engines around. The engine is smallest of the family of engines of different displacements at 1.6 and 2.0 litres. Only one car is powered in India at the moment

Hyundai CRDI:  Hyundai was the first company to bring the famed Common Rail Diesel engines to India with their Hyundai Accent cars. The car was an instant hit thanks to the excellent fuel efficiency and power figures with the affordability of diesels. The company's third generation diesel engines continue to impress. The 1400cc diesel engine with variable geometry chargers is one of the torquiest around with 89bhp on tap along with 220nm of torque. The following Hyundai cars are powered by the 1.4 CRDI engine.

Hyundai CRDI U-LINe: Hyundai has always been a pioneer in diesel engines in India. But they were late to the party in going to liter class diesel engines. Renault K9K:  Renault entered the Indian market with its best example of a frugal and economical diesel engine in collabration with Mahindra which met with initial success.
